Seeing a Nitro Funny Car with the name Begley on the side of it is nothing new at Perth Motorplex.

West Aussie Anthony Begley has completed many passes at the Kwinana facility and finished on the podium at last year’s Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car event.

On January 7, Anthony won’t be the only Begley on nitro however as 18 year old daughter Emma Begley will be making license passes in the family car aptly named Groove’n.

Having gone through the Junior Dragster ranks and then into her father’s 11 second Holden ute, Emma is no stranger to the drag strip, however she is under no disillusions about the challenges that lie ahead.

“A Nitro Funny Car is a big step up from Dad’s ute, I know I have so much to learn and will be taking things a step at a time, I’m under no rush to complete my license, I want to do it properly and learn as much as I can as we go,” she said.

At the recent Boxing Day Night of Fire, Emma completed her first test launch and was still buzzing at the experience.

“I’ll tell you what, NOTHING can get you ready for that, Dad had explained to me what it felt like and what I would experience, but even after all his passes, nothing can describe it.”

When asked about potentially being the first female to take on the guys in the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car series, Begley put it pretty simply: “I’m excited to race against them, the car doesn’t know if it’s a boy or girl behind the wheel.”

While completing the licensing requirements over the next few events Emma will only be doing single passes but once ready she knows who she wants to race against first.

“I have always wanted to follow in Dad’s footsteps and race a Nitro Funny Car, I never thought I could possibly race against him. He has been really good at guiding me through the process, we have spent hours and hours in the shed in the car going through all the procedures, I can’t thank Mum and Dad enough.”
